DETUNED HARMONIC REACTORS
Harmonics progressively shorten the operating life of capacitors
Harmonics are an increasing problem in our networks. In fact, they are responsible for the reduction of the lifespan of capacitors, for circuit feedbacks, high THDi currents and other issues.
Most harmonics are generated by the use of several power electronic devices and non-linear devices such as inverters, UPS, variable frequency drives (VFDs), arc furnaces, florescent lights, computers, etc.
Gruppo Energia detuned reactors (line reactors) are designed to protect capacitors, by preventing the amplification of harmonic currents.
Moreover, line reactors connected with capacitors create a resonance frequency circuit which has a specific tuning frequency. This allows the filtration of harmonic currents and reduces the distortion level of the network.
The most common reactor tuning frequencies are:
- 189 Hz (P = 7%) which mitigates the 5th (and higher) harmonic order;
- 134 Hz (P = 14%) which mitigates the 3rd harmonic order (and higher orders).
Benefits of using Gruppo Energia harmonic reactors:
– Capacitors will last you longer
– Save money by reducing THDi (total current harmonic distortion)
– Protect your network from circuit feedback
– Save money by reducing the reactive power consumption
– Reduce losses at the line transformer and in neutral wire load
– Protect your system from interference
